Today’s post is by Kathy Brasby, President of Spunk and Spirit.

Critique groups will be discussed at the next Spunk and Spirit Christian Writers Group on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 at Life Fellowship in Fort Morgan. Our group meets on the third Monday of each month from 6:30-8 pm in Fort Morgan.

Nedra Russell, who has been participating in several online critique groups in the last couple of years, will lead the discussion at our next meeting. The group will learn more about how to critique others’ work in a helpful way.

We’ll also discuss if we’d like to start a critique group as part of Spunk and Spirit. That could have an online component or it might involve regular meetings. Or some hybrid idea that we haven’t formulated yet.

One of our goals is to encourage our newer writers to submit work and to attend training sessions. We’ve had several members enter flash fiction in Splickety’s contest, held in conjunction with HIS Writers.

We also have members preparing stories to enter in ACFW’s First Impression contest.

And we’ve had members attend writers conferences this year, including the Colorado Christian Writers Conference in Estes Park and the upcoming Castle Rock Writers Conference.

We’re hoping to send several from our group to the Novel Crafters Seminar in November.
