Today’s Member Monday is from Kathy Brasby, president of Spunk and Spirit.

One of the goals for Spunk and Spirit Christian Writers Group is to promote Christian writers wherever they are in their journey. Many of our members are unpublished and still defining their call from God.

So we work hard to provide a safe atmosphere where our members can come, learn the craft, and hopefully be encouraged as we experiment with writing.

Our members enjoy a combination of guest speakers and hands-on time.  Our current goal is to have about one guest speaker a quarter with the other meetings dedicated to craft or calling, with plenty of opportunity to practice what we’re learning.

In August, Chris Richards of Written World Communications described to us how the small publisher can help new writers. She provided inspiration with information and several members came away from that meeting with a new intent to write more and submit their work. Thanks, again, Chris for a meaningful session.

Our September meeting will tackle self-editing. We’ll discuss redundancies, unclear sentences, purple prose and a lot more. We’ll be editing works – whether our own or examples.

At our meetings, we often use Marlene Bagnull’s Write His Answer, which contains devotions for Christian writers.

We’re a casual and friendly group trying to honor God by uncovering his call to each of us.

Please join us if you’re able and pray for us as we grow as writers.
